Alfred Calloway, Sr.

Alfred Calloway Sr. also known as “Dilly” or “Calloway” to his family and friends was born and raised in Ritter, S.C. to late Israel Calloway and Florence Simmons Calloway Gethers He was born on May 27, 1955. He departed this earthly life on August 31, 2023 at his home in Walterboro, S.C. His grandparents Issac and Lula Calloway and Johnny and Rosa Simmons preceded him in death. He had one sister that preceded him in death, Betty Ann Calloway Cox. Alfred also had six uncles that preceded him in death: Julius Simmons, Harvey Simmons, Harold Simmons, Cephus Simmons, Vernon Simmons, and Johnny Simmons.  

He received his education in Colleton County. He joined Cumberland United Methodist Church at an early age. Alfred Calloway was a Master at all things he put his hands on. He was employed by Mitchell Construction and then moved on to be employed with Kenneth Walker for many years. He also worked at Tri County which later changed the name to Unicorn Concrete, where he retired after working for over 30 plus years driving trucks. His passions included racing cars, he loved riding his horses, taking care of his cattle and enjoying his family and friends. 

He leaves to mourn: Wife, Doris S. Calloway of 42 years of marriage. Three children: Alfred Calloway Jr. of Augusta GA, Alexis M. Calloway of Walterboro, SC, Donte` Calloway of Walterboro SC and one Grandson Kayden Calloway that he loved dearly. Six sisters: Lavern Calloway Ray, Janice George, Elaine Gethers, Marie Gethers, all of Walterboro SC. Susie Gethers of Savannah GA and Majorie (Dexter) Radcliff of Dededo Guam. Two Brothers: Kenneth (Theresa) Calloway and Timothy Gethers Jr. both of Walterboro, SC. Uncle: Frank (Catherine) Simmons. Aunts: Cenae M. Simmons, Betty Simmons of Green Pond SC. Carolina Memminger of Walterboro SC. Ida Williams of Augusta, GA. Martha Smith of New York. Special friends: Leroy Mitchell, Harold L. Rhodes Jr., Matt Hamilton and Jackie White along with a host of nieces’ nephews, cousins and friends.
