“Her Story”
Cleo Shirley Hamilton “Shirley” as we know her was born October 13, 1946, at Colleton County Hospital in Walterboro, South Carolina to Jesse and Pearl Hamilton. Her family cared for her until she transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 3:34 am, at the Hospice House in Summerville, South Carolina where God called her home from her earthly dwelling to her heavenly reward.
Her Education:Shirley, as her family often called her, was educated at I.C.S. Elementary Private School in Charleston, South Carolina. She then attended Colleton County High School, then graduated in 1964. She left home and then furthered her education at New Rochelle College in New York and earned her degree in cosmetology. She lived in New York for 60 years. As she moved on in life she began working at Harlem Hospital as an Administrative Assistant. She worked there for 27 years until she retired in 2013.
Things she loved doing in Life:
Shirley loved to travel, she has traveled the world to many countries with family and friends. She also loved to walk and shop and shop often. She bought clothes wherever she went. Most of all she was a loving and caring person always sharing with families and friends.
Her Spiritual Journey:
Shirley was called into Christianity at an early age under the guidance of her mother where she was baptized in Calvary African Methodist Episcopal Church. She continued her spiritual journey at First Bethel AME Church. She matured in various levels of ministry in the church. She was a devoted and willing vessel of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Pearl Hamilton, James Hamilton and Joseph Hamilton.
Our dearly beloved leaves to cherish: one brother Christopher (Margaret) Hamilton, Niece Catherine (Franklin) Dent, Nephew Joseph (Debra) Holmes, Kelvin (Evelyn) Hamilton, Christopher, Jr., (Amber) Hamilton, Niece Twyla Washington, adopted brother Leroy Smalls. Three special cousins; Mrs. Jannie L. Nelson, Mrs. Ardelia Stokes and Richard Cox and her special God Daughter – Shevon Lynette Brown and a Host of nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
