Dorothy Randell Obituary

Dorothy May Randell  was born on May 26, 1946, to Beatrice Woods and a father unknown. She was the oldest child of twelve siblings.  She grew up in Newark, NJ, and was educated in the Newark Public School System.

Dorothy May Woods met and married Lonnie J. Randell. From that union came four children, the late Cha-Cha Lawton, Bernadette Johnson, Beatrice Johnson, and the late Lonnie J. Randell.  In 1981, she had another child by the name of Richard R. Randell.

Dorothy moved to Walterboro, South Carolina in 2005 and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law for most of her days. She joined Canaan Baptist Church in the nineteen years she lived in South Carolina. For most of her life, she was always sick.

Dorothy worked as a daycare assistant and later in life, she worked as a cook at Dairyland.  Anyone who knew her would say that she was someone who was a person of few words unless she liked you.

Dorothy loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they always said that Mommy had her favorite picks among them all.  She remained sickly for many years, but she kept the faith knowing that the Lord loved her.

In July 2023, she was admitted to the St. George Nursing Home because it was hard to continue to take care of her. I would like to thank them for taking care of her until her demise.

Dorothy Randell leaves to cherish her fond memories:  her daughters, Bernadette and Beatrice Johnson and Richard Randell; son-in-law, Victor Johnson; sister, Rose Lattimore of Newark, NJ; brothers, Thomas McLucas of Newark, NJ, and Robert McLucas of North Carolina. eleven grandchildren, late Tasha Randell, Ka ‘Seem (Laura), Nicole, Ali, Erica (Andy), Rashon, Caress (Josh), Brittany, India (Chris) Joey, and Jason (Shaquella). Nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Those who preceded her in death: Cha-Cha (Cleroy) Lawton, Lonnie Randell, grandmother, Mary Woods-Williams, mother, Beatrice McLucas, brothers, Harry James, John, Jeffrey McLucas, and sister Ida McLucas, and a very good friend and father to her children, Alfred Walker.
