Edith Murdock Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth he has laid for me a crown of righteousness.

On Friday, November 9, 2018 the Lord whispered down to Edith Louise Murdock “Come my child, it’s time to come home to be with the Lord you so faithfully served”. She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Murdock, her parents and siblings.

Edith was born September 25, 1923 in Asheville, North Carolina.  As a young adult Edith moved to New York City and started her journey as an adult. She began working for the Key Food Corporation as a Computer Specialist where she worked for over 25 years until her retirement.

In the life of New York, Edith joined Bereen Baptist Church in Brooklyn NY where she was a dedicated member of several committees and ministries.

In the early 1980’s Edith met the love of her life and was united in holy matrimony to Perry Murdock on June 7, 1986.  As a celebration of their unity, they took a driving cross-country trip enjoying the scenery and visiting lots of places and family. Edith enjoyed traveling, shopping, spending time with her family.  She enjoyed fishing with her “bestie” Rose Holiday who has preceded her in death.

In 1988 Edith and Perry packed up moved to Walterboro, SC.  As retirees Edith continued to enjoy traveling with her husband, visiting family.  She became a devoted member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.  She served faithfully as Mother of the Church, member of the Missionary Ministry, Senior Citizens Day Camp, Pastor’s Aide Ministry, Choir and Women’s Auxiliary Club and was known as the “Diva” of Mount Olive.

Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her devoted son, Perry (Doris) Murdock of Dinwiddie, VA; dedicated granddaughter Angela Murdock-Ridley (James) of Brooklyn NY; Granddaughters Tonya Hargrove (John) of Clayton, North Carolina and Edie Hollins of Bronx, NY; six great grandchildren Jasmine Murdock, Dominique Ridley, Courtney Ridley, Angelina Hargrove, Adriana Hargrove and Alena Hargrove; devoted niece Dorothy Magwood (Richard) of Walterboro SC; dedicated nephew Buccie Harley (Betty) of Summerville SC; dedicated friend and caregiver Lenora McTeer;  host of nieces and nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends much too numerous to mention.
