Evelena Danner Obituary

Evelena Campbell Danner, daughter of the late Fishburne and Rebecca Campbell, was born on December 5, 1922, in Jacksonboro, South Carolina. She was the oldest of six children.

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Corine Campbell Kinsey, Henrietta Campbell, James Campbell and Frank Campbell.

She joined Calvary AME at an early age and served faithfully as a Missionary Board member, Missionary President, Steward Board Member, Steward Protent, Stewardess Board Member, Choir Board Member, Class Leader for more than thirty years, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent.  She later was awarded the Certificate of Deaconess. She was a member of  the community prayer band in which she later organized a prayer band in Greater Calvary. These prayer warriors came together to pray for the world as well as the church. Evelena loved her church and working in the church. Because of her faith, support of the church and love for the community, she was bestowed the title as “Mother Danner “ a title fit for a QUEEN. Her vision for Greater Calvary never wavered. She was truly a warrior on the battlefield for the Lord.

Evelena attended school in Jacksonboro SC. Upon graduation, she worked in a restaurant as a cook and in a Button factory in New York City. In 1941, she married Albert Danner, a World War II Veteran, whom she met at the Jacksonboro railroad where he worked. Evelena and Albert raised nine children. She was preceded in death by her husband as well as three of her children: Nathaniel Williams, Albertha Danner Gladden, and Ulyssess Danner.

Evelena valued family and was a dedicated daughter, wife, and mother. She was a caregiver to her parents. For 41 years, Evelina was a  help meet to her husband. Evelena (mom) was a loving, caring, and giving mother and grandmother. She prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner for her children up until she was 97 years old. The love she gave her children was unconditional and unwavering. She loved her brothers, James and Frank’s children as her own. Evelena’s love was a true example of 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant.
