Brother James Gary Henderson, the son of the late Mr. Gary Henderson and the late Mrs. Julia Shider Henderson, was born May 3, 1932 in Walterboro, South Carolina. He departed this life early Tuesday morning, May 10, 2016 at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro, SC.
He attended and graduated from William Memorial high School in St. George, SC in 1950. He later enlisted in the United States Army where he served 4 years and received an honorable discharge. After returning home he attended South Carolina State receiving a Bachelors degree in agriculture and a minor Science. He taught school for many years at Estill High School.
At an early age he received Christ as his personal savior. He joined Oakman Branch Baptist Church where he was a faithful, patience, caring member until 2007 when stricken by a sudden illness. While attending Oakman Branch he served on the trustee board, brotherhood and became sexton for many years. He also was chairperson for the voter’s registration in Walterboro, SC. His last eight years was spent at the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro where he continued to attend church services at the nursing home and received communion from his Pastor Ivory Tucker.
He leaves to cherish his memories his son; James David Henderson, daughter, Pendora (Edward) Ryant of Orangeburg, SC; one sister, Eva Garvin of St. George, SC; one brother, Jeff Henderson of Walterboro, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly.
Funeral Services Saturday May 14, 2016, at Oakman Branch Baptist Church,
Walterboro, SC at 11:00 AM
Interment at Old Miss Cemetery, Smoaks, SC.
