Larry Ellis Obituary

Larry Ellis, Son of the late Nezro and Myrtle Lee Harley Ellis, was born in Ashton, South Carolina on December 9, 1946. He departed this life on June 4, 2025.

He was a 1964 Graduate of Ruffin High School in Ruffin, SC. Larry was a big jokester and he enjoyed playing on the Basketball and Football teams.

His love of carpentry led him to entrepreneurship for nearly 60 years. His generous spirit always motivated him to help others. Ultimately, his compassion for people led him to become a servant for the Lord.

Deacon Ellis was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years. He taught Sunday School, sang on the Young Adult and Senior Choirs, led Bible Studies, served as a Head Deacon, and an avid supporter of The Missionary Society.

He was a member of Mt. Olive Lodge No. 466 in Hampton, SC for many years.

He was married to Catherine Stephens Ellis. To this union, three children were born: Craig, Shelia and Keith.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Nezro and Myrtle Lee Harley Ellis; Brother, Nezro (Glen) Ellis Jr., Sisters Hattie Ann Ellis Grimes and Sandra Ellis Bodison; two brothers-in-law, Jim Bodison and Charles Grimes.

Left to honor the beautiful memories of his life: Children, Craig Ellis (Judy)of Charleston, SC, Shelia Ellis of Walterboro, SC, and Keith Ellis (Takesha) of Walterboro, SC; five grandchildren, Sharmaine, Ryan, Tamacia, Joel, and Kwamaine; two great grandchildren, kwamir and Kalani; two siblings; Marilyn Ellis Fryar (Johnnie), of Walterboro, SC and Jacquelyn Ellis of Orangeburg, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a very special friend, Annabell Simmons.
