On Monday May 5, 2025, Lee Gilliard peacefully accepted his calling from the Lord at Inova Alexandria
Hospital, Alexandria, Virginia.
Lee Gilliard was born on December 23, 1928, to the late Katie Richard Gilliard and Richmond Gilliard in Green Pond, South Carolina. Lee grew up in the Pynes Community area of Green Pond with his parents and two siblings: Two preceded him in death Freezie Gilliard Jackson and Clevland Gilliard. Also, preceded him in death is his wife Dorothy Gilliard and his twochildren: Yvonne Gilliard and Carolyn Gilliard.
At an early each he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviorat St. Mary A.M.E. Church. He received his early education at the local school within Colleton County and attended Burke High School in Charleston, South Carolina.
After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged, and while living in New York City, he married his wife, the late Dorothy Gilliard and became a Supervisor at the United States Postal Service.
Lee leaves to cherish his memories: One son; Lee Gilliard Jr.,New Jersey, One Stepdaughter: Robyn Brown, Madison, New Jersey. One sister-law: Joanlee Blunt, Clinton Maryland. SevenGrands: Shateek Bilal (Shakeia), Fatimah Bilal, Bayeena Bilal, Daa’iyah Berrios (Eric), Ahmad Bilal, Bishme Walker, Yakie, New York, NY. Six nieces: Carol Powell, Charleston, SC, Ogletha Gilliard-Fludd, Green Pond, SC, Erin Holbert-Roscoe(Mark) Clinton, Maryland, Ethelyn Gilliard, Hampton, SC, Joanlee Martin, Kimberly Martin. Six nephews: Julian Jackson, (Minnie) Green Pond, SC, Kevin Holbert, Steven Holbert, Richard Martin.Two preceded him in death Eric L. Gilliard, Harry Holbert. Two Special cousins: Henry Richard (Cecelia)Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
A host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, grandnieces, grandnephew, great-grandnephew, cousins, family and friends.
