A Time to be Born: Minister Barbara Ann Brown Shider was born to the proud parents of the late Lisbon and Emily Brown on December 8, 1958 in Walterboro, SC. 


A Time to Learn: She attended public schools in Colleton County and was a graduate of Walterboro High School, class of 1977. She was employed at Carolina Lodge and worked in the Colleton County School District as a special education assistant. Also, for 17 years she was a loyal and devoted dispatcher for the South Carolina Highway Patrol.


A Time for every Purpose under the Heaven: Minister Shider accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Nebo Baptist Church in Yemassee, SC. She later joined Progressive Church of Jesus under the leadership of then Pastor, the late Mother Mazie Moultrie. Lastly, she joined Power of Faith Deliverance Ministry and was ordained as a licensed minister under the leadership of Pastor Nancy P. Goff. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Pastor’s Aide Committee. 


A Time to Love: On February 3, 1996 she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Tony F. Shider. This union remained blessed for 25 years.


A Time to be Blessed: From this union, they were blessed with three beautiful children: Nicholas, Tiffani and Tara. 


A Time to Die: She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dossie and Benjamin; one sister, Essie, father-in-law George Sr., mother-in-law, Celia; a brother-in-law, Frank; and two sisters-in-law, Myra and Maggie.


Minister Barbara A. Shider made her heavenly transition on Tuesday, January 25, 2022. 


A Time to Mourn: She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Tony Shider; one son,  Nicholas (Orisha) Brown of Accokeek, MD; two daughters, Tiffani and Tara Shider and one grandson, Javontay Jr., all of Walterboro, SC; three siblings, Jake (Bernadette) Brown of Yonkers, NY, Rodney “Ronnie” (Linda) Brown of Colorado Springs, CO; Sandra Kennedy of Savannah, GA; two brothers-in-law, George Jr. (Brenda) Shider of Walterboro, SC,  William “Kenny” (Carol) Shider of Yemassee, SC, and one sister-in-law, Mazie “Missy” Shider-Sprague of Walterboro, SC. She also leaves her legacy to a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
