Our mother was born December 13, 1934 to the late Nancy Drayton Holmes and Rev. Willis White. She went home to our Lord and Savior on July 20, 2020.
She spent her early years growing up in White Hall, S.C surrounded by her family. She shared mother with two brothers (Benjamin & John) and her sister (Josephine). She shared her father with seven sisters (Mamie, Carolyn, Juliet, Dolores, Theta, Rubia & May Ethel) and one brother (Daly).
After completing High School she married our beloved father Willie Holmes (Deceased) spent just months shy of 60 years. They had four boys (Randolph “Lester” {Deceased}, Anthony, Avery [Lena – Daughter-in-law] and Troy) and one daughter, Laurie Ann “Nancy” Holmes Erskine (Tony – Son-in-law). She has four grandchildren (Toni “Lauren”, Malcolm, John and Nora) and one great granddaughter (Bailey Elise).
Family was everything to her. They were to be loved, supported and praised as much as possible, and always forgiven. Her primary life work was raising and supporting her family. She had dreams and she full filled them by making sure if we wanted something, we got it. She made a way for her children and family.
For herself she was most proud to have served as a Past Matron Orchid Victory Chapter No. 69 Order of the Eastern Stars in New York City. She retired from Loehmanns Distribution Center in The Bronx, where she supervised the distribution of merchandise to the New York stores.
As much as she loved living and raising her family in New York she never forgot her roots and her home. My mother and father returned to Green Pond S.C. in 1997.
She has been a loyal and faithful member of Jerusalem/St. Mary A.M.E. Church. With a heavy heart she came to Virginia to live out her final days in the care of her daughter.
My mother was a woman of minimal words. She was smart, articulate and had a good sense of humor despite her serious nature and demeanor. She was all about family and her love extends to all her cousins, nieces, nephews and her church family and friends
My mother told me to “Be calm, I am not afraid, when Jesus calls me, I am going to go.” So, know that she is with her eternal father and she wants us to “Be calm” and we will be okay.

In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whether I go ye know, and the way ye know. John 14:1-4
