Mrs. Donnie Walker Obituary

Donnie Redish-Walker entered into this world May 27, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Lee and Edsicie Redish of Colleton County. She was called home February 16, 2021.

At an early age she joined Evergreen Baptist Church in Williams, SC with her family. Her primary education began at Mt Union (Smoaks) the continued to Bethel (Smoaks) and Ruffin High. Donnie’s high school education was completed at Colleton Training-School and Colleton County. She went on to Benedict College where she studied elementary education. After Benedict she move to Brooklyn, NY where she began her 23 year journey working with youth. It was in Brooklyn where Donnie met her husband to be David Walker. The two had a 49 year union that produced 3 sons. While in Brooklyn she frequently attended Wayside Baptist church. During her years in New York. She enjoyed having four siblings close enough to visit and talk to.

In 1988 Donnie and David moved to Smoaks, SC. Once she returned home, she also returned to Evergreen Baptist Church. Mrs. Walker joined the choir, became a trustee and assisted in any was possible. She also continued her work with children by becoming a teacher assistant at Bell Elementary until 1999 where she retired from teaching.

She was preceded in life by her husband. Left to celebrate her life: three sons, Ron (Jackie), Stan, and Cecil; grandchildren, Cherelle, Angalic, Stan Jr, Sean, Marcella and their children. l She is also survived by two sisters, Mary (David) (Queen Village) and Alma Drakeford (Decatur, GA); brother-in-law, William Jordan (Queen, NY) and a host of nieces, nephews , other relatives and friends.

Please, remember to keep your distance as much as possible, and wash and sanitize your hands. Thank you for your cooperation and with helping us to do our part in stopping the spread of the Virus.

Please leave the Family a note of Condolence, light a candle of remembrance, or order a floral remembrance piece.  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where  I am, there ye may be also.  And whether I go ye know, and the way ye know. John 14:1-4
