Ozene J. Fryar Obituary

Ozene was born March 12, 1939, to the late Daniel Sampson and Ethel Steward Sampson in Ruffin (Red Root Community), SC. Our LORD sent His angel to escort her into His presence to live eternally on Christmas Night 2025, repeating history in our family as he did Christmas 1974 when He called her Mom to come home. This is the way Ozene, with her “honest sense of humor” would have wanted it!

In addition to her parents, six siblings preceded her to Heaven: Corine Sampson Fryar, James (JW) and Jasper (JC) Sampson, Mary Louise Sampson Fryar and Martha Sampson Johnson.

She graduated from Ruffin High School in 1957. A few years later, she relocated to Mt. Dora, FL where she faithfully served at the Mt. Olive AME Church. Years later, she returned to SC until her heart was ‘captivated’ by Harvey Fryar to be his wife. She relocated to join him in NYC where she became a faithful member of Abyssinia Baptist Church in Harlem. After Harvey’s retirement and her retiring from JP Morgan Chase they relocated to their roots in SC.

Ozene had an unconditional love for her huge family and never tired of ‘fishing’ with her sister Louise, her ‘Lily’ and other beloved family members. Until her health failed, she was a loyal member of Red Root United Methodist Church where she committed her heart to Jesus in her early years.

Cherishing beautiful memories are: her devoted husband of forty-seven years, Children: Gregory Robinson, Islandton SC; Ricky Taylor (Odessa), Brooklyn NY; Bonus Children: Warren Fryar; Sean Fryar (Juanita), both of New Jersey. Her beloved Grandchildren: Edwin Robinson (USN) ; Janet and Joseph Taylor; Jason, Christopher and Cayanna Fryar. Two sisters whom she loved and adored, including: Amie Green, Ruffin SC; sister-in-law: Marie Sampson, Smoaks, SC; her devoted niece and caregiver, Delphenia Wilson and a host of other devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.

Please leave the family a note of Condolence, light a candle of remembrance, or order a floral remembrance piece.  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.  And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. John 14:1-4
