Ruby Johnson Pough Obituary

The Life of Ruby Johnson-Pough

Ruby Johnson Pough was born on August 20, 1945 to Leroy Johnson and Beatrice White in Charleston, SC.  Ruby was the youngest daughter from that union.  Ruby was raised with her siblings: Barbara, Cora- Lee and Ivan.  Even as a child Ruby was an independent, dedicated and loyal person.  Although, Ruby was one of the younger siblings, she truly believed she was the eldest.  Ruby always championed for the meek and mild.

Ruby was educated through the South Carolina School System. She excelled in school and received numerous accolades.  Ruby migrated to Brooklyn, NY upon graduating High School.  She landed her first real job at Chock Full O Nuts as a waitress in McCory’s Department Store.  Ruby provided excellent customer service and loved collecting and counting the tips left by customers. Ruby knew the value of a dollar.  Ruby could stretch a dollar like no one else.

Ruby’s next job venture was working with the United States Postal Service.  Ruby was proud to be a federal postal worker.  She started out as Mail Clerk/Carrier and worked her way up the ranks to management.  Ruby was responsible for training new employees and ensuring that the front desk cash register was balanced each evening.  She worked long and tough hours.  After, 30 years of dedicated service, Ruby decided to retire.

During her tenure at the United States postal service, Ruby met and married her soulmate Curtis Pough. Although Ruby worked hard, she also played hard. She enjoyed fishing, shopping, and traveling. Ruby has traveled the world. She mostly enjoyed cruises that took her too many ports of call. Ruby gave her life to Christ as an adult. Once she personally found the truth about Jesus’s love for her, she became a disciple of Christ. She was an avid church goer. Ruby and her beloved husband became a member of the Christian Cultural Center in 1993, where Dr. A.R. Bernard was pastor. While attending CCC, she went on to pledge and cross over into the International Christian Sisterhood, which is a global Christian sisterhood organization.

When Ruby and Curtis Pough relocated to home state of South Carolina, she began to search for a teaching and preaching ministry. Where she found it in the W.O.R.D. Ministries Christian Center in Summerville, SC, where Dr. George Hamilton is pastor.  She loved the ministry and she served for many faithful and dedicated years. While attending W.O.R.D. Ministries Christian Center, she joined the Outreach and Witness Committee, New Members Committee, and the Woman’s Hospitality Committee Ruby’s ministry was serving people. This drove her to obtaining her B.S. in Divinity from Rhema Bible College.

Along from her church life, Ruby also understood the importance of family which is why she tried to stay close by them. Ruby was still trying to relocate the family that had not yet been blessed by her big heart. In return she was blessed to have other family in the community that loved and accepted her just the same. She leaves to cherish her memories: her wonderful siblings, Elononar (Herbert) Fisbourne, Franklin Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Stella (Paul) Williams, Betty Johnson and Willamae (Michael) Rattley all South Carolina; and Myra Johnson of California. Ruby leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will cherish all the memories that they have shared together.
