Stacey Maria Sumter was born on February 28, 1967 in Walterboro, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Harry Donald Sumter and the late Ms. Etta Mae George Sumter. She departed this earthly life on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, S.C.

Stacey was graduate of Walterboro High School Class of 1985. She also attended Clafflin College in Orangeburg, S.C. in her later years, she was a childcare teacher at  Walterboro Childcare Center. Following those years, she was a Vocational Trainer with the Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs for 19 years.

Stacey was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Harry Donald Sumter and Ms. Etta Mae George Sumter.

She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted, loving daughter, Megan Gowins of Walterboro, SC; one sister, Takesha Ellis (Keith) of Walterboro, SC; five uncles, Lawson George (Ruthann) of Kingstree, SC, Thomas George of Walterboro, SC, Willie Ray George (Cindy) of Walterboro, SC, Eugene Donaldson of Aiken, SC and Robert Meminger (Willa) of Ridgeville, SC; four aunts, Ruth George and Gwendolyn George of Walterboro, SC, Diane Meminger of New York, NY and Janice George of Walterboro, SC and a host of cousins and friends.

The Sumter Family would like to send special thank you to Cousin Dr. Gail L. Rearden, Aunt Gwendolyn George, Cheryl Rivers-Arroyo and the Colleton County Board of Disabilities and Special Needs.
